The March 25, 2010 edition of the Swiss science TV magazine "Einstein" featured solar panels that are installed on cables so that they can follow more easily the path of the sun. Solar panels generate the most power when they face the sun right-angled, and the flexible installation on cables allowed them to do so more easily.
Studies showed an 20 percent higher power yield compared to fixed solar panels installations.
Solar Wings, a company from Liechtenstein and the inventor of the system, teamed up with a cable car company to build a new ski lift in the Swiss Alps that is covered with solar panels. That way, the ski lift installation is useful throughout the year.
Other useful places for such installations would be parking lots.
